  • Candidates of Indian Nationality with a post-graduation degree from any recognised university in India have the UGC NET Commerce eligibility.
  • Candidates belonging to other countries but those who completed the post-graduation in any Indian University have the eligibility for UGC NET Commerce Exam.
  • Indian citizens who have completed their post-graduation from other recognised universities around the world also come under the UGC NET Commerce Eligibility.
  • Candidates other than Indians do not have eligibility for the UGC NET Commerce Exam, while Indian Candidates residing overseas can apply for the exam.

UGC NET Commerce Educational Qualification

Educational qualification is one of the primary eligibility criteria to be met in the UGC NET Exam. Candidates must refer to the qualification requirements before they apply for the exam.   • Candidates who have completed their post-graduation/ those who are pursuing their post-graduation in these following streams have the UGC NET Commerce Eligibility: post-graduation in Commerce, Business Services, Economics, Accountancy, or other subjects related to Commerce.
  • Candidates who have completed their Under-graduation and Post-graduation from any recognised Indian University are applicable for the UGC NET Commerce Exam 
  • One of the basic UGC NET Commerce Eligibility under educational qualifications is the post-graduation degree with a pass percentage of 55.
  • Candidates of General/ Unreserved/ General EWS Criteria should have scored 55% in their post-graduation degree for the UGC NET Commerce Exam.
  • Candidates who belong to the SC/ST/PWD categories must have scored 50% marks in their post-graduation degree has the UGC NET Commerce Eligibility.
  • Candidates pursuing their final year post-graduation degree are also eligible to apply for the UGC NET Commerce Exam, provided they must complete the course within the allotted time.
  • Transgender students applying for the exam get relaxation in fee marks to be scored and the subject-wise cut-off in the relevant subject.
  • Ph.D. degree holders whose master’s level examination has been completed by 19th September 1991 (irrespective of the date of declaration of result) are eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e. from 55% to 50% for General Candidates). Candidates qualified as CA, CS, or ICWA can appear for the UGC NET exam.
  • Foreign candidates with any diploma/ certificate courses from any foreign university with the association of Indian University have the UGC NET Commerce Eligibility to appear for the exam.
  • Candidates are directed to appear in the subject of their post-graduation only. Candidates applying for the UGC NET exam whose Post Graduation subject is not covered in the list of subjects may appear in a related subject.
  • Candidates who have completed their Ph.D. and Master’s Degree on or before 19 September 1999 will get a 5% relaxation which is an added advantage.

UGC NET Commerce Eligibility Criteria- Age Limit

Age Limit is the prime and crucial eligibility check when it comes to any competitive exam. Candidates must be within the circle of the given age limit to apply for the UGC NET Exam. Students must know the difference between the age limit criteria of the UGC NET JRF Application and the UGC NET Assistant Professor vividly.   • There is no particular upper age limit given for UGC NET Commerce Assistant Professor Job. Candidates with a postgraduate degree completed in any recognised university in India have the UGC NET in Commerce Eligibility.

UGC NET JRF Age Relaxation

When it comes to JRF, candidates exceeding 30 years are not eligible to apply for the UGC NET Exam, but age relaxations are applicable for different categories according to the Government of India norms which are given below:

The total age in relaxation years should not exceed after 5 years according to the University Grants Commission. The government of India has given a separate Reservation Policy for each category of people for those who apply for the UGC NET Exam. Candidates must know the reservation percentages along with the UGC NET Commerce Eligibility Criteria to apply for the exam

UGC NET Commerce Exam- Number of Attempts Permitted

For any competitive exam there will be a stipulative number of attempts given for the candidates. The UGC NET Exam for the post of Assistant Professor has no such number of attempts regulated. Candidates can make their own attempts until they clear the UGC NET Commerce exam. There is no age limit to apply for the UGC NET Commerce Exam which is an added advantage for the students. Candidates applying for the UGC NET JRF can apply only three times along with the age restrictions. (Candidates must be within 31 years). Aspirants who have completed their master’s in commerce-related streams have the eligibility for UGC NET Commerce Exam. Candidates are supposed to know these before they appear for the exam to get more clarity on what they are going to write. 

  • There are no limitations in UGC NET Commerce Assistant Professor attempts
  • Candidates can write the UGC NET JRF only three times
  • Applicants appearing for UGC NET JRF should be on or under the age of 31
  • There are no age restrictions for UGC NET Commerce Assistant Professor Posting.

UGC NET Commerce Eligibility- Exemptions

There are a few exemptions that the candidates must be aware of before applying for the exam. It is vital for the candidates to know the exemptions as they get to know about the UGC NET Commerce Eligibility

  • Candidates who have cleared the State Eligibility Test (SET) after 2002 have eligibility only for UGC NET Commerce Assistant Professor Posting. They are inapplicable for the UGC NET JRF. 
  • Candidates who have already cleared the CSIR JRF and UGC NET before 1989 are ineligible to apply for the UGC NET Commerce 2023
  • Candidates who have qualified SET before 1st June 2002 are exempted to apply for UGC NET but can work as Assistant Professors anywhere in India.
  • For SET held from 1st June 2002 onwards, the qualified candidates are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor only in the universities/ colleges from where they have cleared their state exam.

UGC NET Commerce Eligibility - Provisions for scribe

As per the memorandum of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment candidates who face physical disabilities such as: Visually impaired, Dyslexia, Lost fingers/ Hands, Disability in upper limbs are eligible to apply for a scribe. 

Scribes will help the candidates in reading the questions or typing the answers as per the instructions of the candidates. Candidates must remember that Scribes will never help the candidates in finding the solutions of any questions. Students who apply for a scribe must fill the application form with relevant details.

Important Points to Remember

  • Candidates writing the UGC NET Exam during the final year of post-graduation should complete the course within the given stipulated time
  • Candidates can still apply to the UGC NET Exam even if they are waiting for the results to be published 
  • Candidates are only required to mention their category in the form and relevant certificates at the time of admission.
  • Candidates found with ineligibility will be cancelled immediately
  • Candidates can apply for the subject for the NET Exam with a master’s degree or equivalent other degrees from any recognised universities.
  • Applicants belonging to the third gender category are also eligible to have relaxation in the fee.
