In order to assess the sub-national unit's overall performance across the 16 SDGs, overall State and UT scores are created using goal-wise scores.

The closer a State/UT comes to achieving its goal, the higher its score.

Additional Information:

The SDG India Index 2020-21, created in partnership with the UN in India, monitors the performance of all States and UTs on 115 indicators that are in line with the National Indicator Framework for MoSPI (NIF).
The need to regularly benchmark performance, measure progress, and take into account the availability of the most recent SDG-related data for States and UTs have driven the initiative to hone and improve this crucial tool with each edition.
