  • MOSFET is a switch used in a circuit to provide smooth operation. Due to some external cause, the voltage across the MOSFET (Gate to source voltage) may suddenly rise above the operating range resulting in MOSFET destruction.
  • To protect the MOSFET, Zener diodes are connected between the gate and source terminal of MOSFET. This is because Zener diodes are voltage regulator devices.

For normal operating voltage range, the Zener diode remains open and for high voltage range Zener diode goes into a breakdown region and hence MOSFET becomes safe.
