Given:

Base of the triangle (b) = 20 cm

Altitude of the triangle (h) = 20% more than the base = 20 + (20 × 20 / 100) = 24 cm

Formula used:

In an isosceles triangle, the altitude divides the triangle into two right-angled triangles.

Using Pythagoras theorem:

Equal side (s) = √((b/2)2 + h2)

Calculations:

Equal side (s) = √((20/2)2 + 242)

⇒ s = √(102 + 242)

⇒ s = √(100 + 576)

⇒ s = √676

⇒ s = 26 cm
