Example 1: Find the value of the quotient and remainder when CXXXIX is divided by V.
Solution: We know that CXXXIX = 100 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 9 = 139
And V= 5
So, we need to divide 139 by 5 and write the quotient and remainder in roman numerals.
On dividing 139 by 5 we get 27 as quotient and 4 as remainder.
Therefore, the quotient is XXVII and remainder is IV.
Example 2: What is the difference between the roman numerals CXXXIX and LXV.
Solution: Let us first convert these roman numerals in number form:

Now, we need to calculate the difference between 139 and 65.

Now, add the two numbers:
3520 + 139 = 3659
Next, convert 3659 into Roman numerals:
