When an even number of terms is given,

Average = [(n/2)^th + (n/2 +1)^th]/2

Solution

Here, n = 40

n/2 = 20

⇒ Average of first 40 natural numbers = (20 + 21)/2

⇒ 20.5

The correct option is 4.
