Question
Download Solution PDFA mixture contains milk and water in the ratio of 5 ∶ 3, respectively. On adding 7 litres of water, the ratio of milk to water becomes 1 ∶ 2. Find the quantity of milk in the mixture.
Answer (Detailed Solution Below)
Detailed Solution
Download Solution PDFGiven:
Initial ratio = 5 : 3
Final ratio after adding 7 litres of water = 1 : 2
Calculations:
Let the quantities of milk and water in the mixture be 5x and 3x respectively.
On adding 7 litres if water, we get:
5x /(3x + 7) = 1/2
⇒10x = 3x + 7
⇒x = 1
So, The milk in the mixture is 5x = 5(1) litres
Hence, The Required value is 5 litres.
Shortcut Trick
Before mixing, Milk : Water = 5 : 3 & after water added, Milk : Water = 1 : 2
There is no change in Milk, we make milk unit same in both the ratio,
So, 7 unit → 7 litre then 5 unit → 5 litres
