The premiere of Raw following WWE Money in the Bank 2025 brought fast-paced action and heart-stopping moments. There were hard-hitting matches and dramatic comebacks, and the show was a rollercoaster. A-listers John Cena, CM Punk, and R-Truth made appearances, and the main event boasted a blockbuster World Heavyweight Championship bout. Let’s take a look at what transpired:
John Cena’s Segment
Cena spoke about what went down at Money in the Bank, stating he wasted his breath attempting to save R-Truth, labeling him a “sideshow comedian.” He said R-Truth’s greatest accomplishment is playing along as John Cena. While this was happening, fans chanted Truth’s name. Cena remarked that he doesn’t have time with his retirement tour scheduled and demanded a “real fighter.”
CM Punk Confronts Cena
CM Punk cut in, accusing Cena of cheating to beat Cody Rhodes and terming his acts as wrong. Punk made himself the voice of the people and dared Cena to select a date when “The Best in the World” could win his title. Cena agreed, stating Punk would have to travel to Saudi Arabia at Night of Champions to win it. Seth Rollins appeared with his group, brandishing the Money in the Bank briefcase.
AJ Styles vs. Chad Gable & Queen of the Ring Qualifier
Styles and Gable put on a technical classic, complete with interference from The Creed Brothers. Styles eliminated them and later on beat Gable with a surprise Styles Clash.
In the Queen of the Ring qualifier, Rhea Ripley, Kairi Sane, Liv Morgan, and Roxanne Perez engaged in a wild brawl. Sane delivered an Insane Elbow to Liv, but Perez took advantage with a roll-up on Sane to claim victory.
Becky Lynch Segment & R-Truth’s Emotional Promo
Becky Lynch boasted of her title reign as Women’s Intercontinental Champion. She asked Lyra to raise her hand once more, but Bayley came back and struck Becky from behind. After being pushed back into the ring by Lyra, Becky fled out into the crowd a second time.
R-Truth gave an emotional promo from the commentary desk, expressing gratitude to the fans for accepting his return. He mentioned John Cena brought out “Ron Killings” in him and surprisingly cut his own hair using scissors, leaving fans amazed.
King of the Ring Qualifier & Nikki Bella’s Return
A high-octane King of the Ring qualifier saw Bron Breakker, Dominik Mysterio, Penta, and Sami Zayn clash. LA Knight intervened and hit Breakker with a BFT. Zayn followed up, flooring Dominik with a Helluva Kick for the victory.
Hall of Famer Nikki Bella had a surprise return, building hype for the upcoming Evolution premium live event. Liv Morgan cut in and disrespected Nikki, even making fun of her divorce. The situation became physical as Liv chopped her with an Oblivion, setting up a possible confrontation at Evolution.
Main Event: Jey Uso (c) vs. Gunther – World Heavyweight Championship
The main event saw Jey Uso retain the World Heavyweight Championship against Gunther. The bout was high-impact from the beginning, with both competitors trying to get early pins. Jey impressed spectators by executing a Frog Splash, but Gunther dominated as the bout continued.
Following several sleeper holds and vicious elbow strikes, Gunther applied a submission hold that put Jey out cold. The referee stopped the match, declaring Gunther the new World Heavyweight Champion. This ended Jey Uso’s reign — and Roman Reigns’ family’s reign — on the championship.
