IND vs ENG: India will come back to Test cricket in June when they travel to England for a five-match series. The tour party for the series is likely to be announced in the last week of IPL 2025. Rohit Sharma had relinquished India’s previous Test against Australia, relinquishing the captaincy to Jasprit Bumrah.
Rohit’s Captaincy In Question
Although Rohit has assured that he will remain the team’s captain, there are lingering doubts over his position in the team. Even as fans waited for a formal word on Rohit’s Test career, a report has thrown up an intriguing question mark.
Shubman Gill Has A Chance
According to Revsportz, Shubman Gill is the next in line to be named Test captain if Rohit is not available. While Gill is vice-captain of the team in white-ball cricket, he has not been included in the leadership unit of Tests yet. Shubman can make his captaincy debut if Rohit misses the tour.
Two Other Contenders
Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli are the other players in the running for the position. Bumrah, India’s vice-captain in Tests, was India’s captain during the Perth Test win and also captained the team for the fifth Test. Yet, his fitness is still a matter of concern, and his availability in all five Tests is unclear.
Virat Kohli, the captain of India between 2015 and 2022, is also still in the reckoning. He became captain in place of an injured Bumrah and won 40 matches out of 68 Tests to become the most successful Test captain of the nation.
India’s Schedule
England tour of India is to be played from June 20 to August 4, with the opening Test to be played in Leeds from June 20-24. The second Test is to be played in Birmingham from July 2-6, followed by the third Test at Lord’s from July 10-14. The last two Tests are to be played in Manchester and London on July 23 and 31, respectively.
