A former journalist turned leader, Awasthi is well-known for his exceptional public relations skills and for staying deeply connected with the people.
Celebrations Marking Awasthi’s First Year
To celebrate the completion of his first year in office, a grand ceremony was held in Kanpur, bringing together senior party workers and local leaders. The purpose of the event was to honor those who have been dedicated to the organization and selflessly served the public. In a show of gratitude, Awasthi took this opportunity to recognize and reward the tireless efforts of his colleagues. The ceremony was attended by a large number of party workers, creating an atmosphere of excitement and camaraderie.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was Pankaj Singh, the State Vice President and a popular legislator. In recognition of Singh’s contributions and leadership, Awasthi presented him with a replica of the ‘Brahmos’ missile – a symbol of India’s strategic strength and self-reliance. This gesture highlighted Awasthi’s commitment not only to local development but also to national security and technological progress.
In his address, Pankaj Singh praised Awasthi for his remarkable achievements over the past year. He emphasized that Awasthi had succeeded in bringing the organization closer together, treating it like a family, and playing an active role in public welfare initiatives. Singh also acknowledged the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, discussing the country’s economic and strategic successes under his guidance, and lauded Awasthi’s unwavering dedication to these causes.
Awasthi, in his speech, expressed gratitude for the support and trust he had received from the people of Kanpur. He said, “This year has been about service, dialogue, and commitment. My aim has always been to restore the lost glory of Kanpur, and with your support and blessings, this vision is now becoming a reality.”
Top 5 Achievements of Ramesh Awasthi’s First Year
1. The Elevated Railway Track Project: One of the most notable achievements during Awasthi’s first year was the approval of the elevated railway track project from Anwarganj to Madhna. This project, under the guidance of Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, is a major step towards modernizing Kanpur’s infrastructure. It will eliminate 16 out of 18 crossings and is expected to ease the traffic congestion caused by frequent railway crossings. The project is valued at approximately ₹1,000 crore and promises to bring a significant improvement to Kanpur’s connectivity.
2. Traffic Infrastructure Improvements and Flyover Construction: Kanpur, with a population of over 5 million, has faced severe traffic congestion. To address this, Awasthi has pushed for the construction of flyovers and overpasses. Two major projects have already been approved, including the construction of a four-lane railway overpass near Jareeb Chowki and a four-lane bridge over the Ganga. These projects will significantly improve transportation in the city, providing much-needed relief to daily commuters.
3. Settling Long-Pending Wages of Lal Imli Mill Workers: Awasthi’s intervention led to the settlement of long-overdue wages for employees of Lal Imli Mill. The workers, who had been waiting for their wages for several years, had been facing severe financial hardships. Thanks to Awasthi’s continuous efforts, the workers received their outstanding wages totaling ₹87.42 crores, improving their financial situation and restoring their faith in the leadership.
4. Industrial Revitalization of Kanpur: Kanpur, once known as the “Manchester of the East,” had seen a decline in industrial activity over the years. Awasthi has been actively working with the Prime Minister to rejuvenate the city’s industrial base by converting old mills into an IT park and creating new employment opportunities. The government has assured swift action, and Awasthi remains hopeful for a positive outcome.
5. Expansion of Railway Services: Awasthi has also worked to enhance Kanpur’s railway connectivity. He has been instrumental in pushing for the revival of several train services, including the daily superfast intercity train between Kanpur and Bareilly, as well as the resumption of the Gomti Express. These services will make travel more convenient for Kanpur’s residents, improving the city’s overall connectivity.
6. Parag Dairy Returns to Kanpur, Thanks to Ramesh Awasthi’s Efforts: Parag Dairy, once a symbol of Kanpur’s identity, is set to make a strong comeback due to the persistent efforts of MP Ramesh Awasthi. After years of neglect, the dairy plant will now be operated by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) on a 10-year lease starting July. Trial runs at the 4-lakh litre capacity plant are expected to begin by June-end. This revival will not only bring fresh milk, curd, buttermilk, and paneer back to Kanpur homes but also provide significant support to local farmers, dairy producers, and consumers, marking a major turnaround for the city’s dairy sector.
7. Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium to Be Redeveloped for ₹250 Crore: The iconic Green Park Stadium in Kanpur is set for a grand transformation, thanks to MP Ramesh Awasthi’s continuous advocacy. Once the pride of Kanpur, hosting legendary international cricket matches, the stadium had fallen into disrepair in recent years. Awasthi repeatedly raised the issue with government and sports authorities, pushing for urgent modernization. Now, with ₹250 crore allocated for redevelopment, Green Park will be equipped with world-class facilities. This upgrade aims to restore its historical significance, revive cricketing enthusiasm in the region, and position Kanpur back on the global sports map with a modern, state-of-the-art venue.
