Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi said Mughal emperor Aurangzeb was “not a cruel leader.” The SP leader said “wrong history is being shown” and Aurangzeb had “built several temples”.
While talking to reporters, Azmi said, “All the wrong history is being shown. Aurangzeb built many temples. Aurangzeb is not a cruel leader.”
Azmi’s remarks drew flak and Maharashtra deputy CM Eknath Shinde slammed him over his remarks and dubbed it as “ wrong and unacceptable”.
On Samajwadi Party leader and Maharashtra MLA Abu Azmi’s reported remarks about Aurangzeb, Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde said, “His statement is wrong and should be condemned. Aurangzeb tortured Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj for 40 days; calling such a person good is the biggest sin, and hence, Abu Azmi should apologize. Our CM has taken this matter seriously. He should be charged with treason.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the historical drama Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, for its portrayal of the bravery of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Speaking at the 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan in New Delhi, PM Modi lauded Maharashtra’s significant contribution to both Marathi and Hindi cinema.
