Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case Live Updates: A big development has emerged in the Meghalaya Honeymoon murder case, with Sonam Raghuvanshi’s arrest. 24-year-old, Sonam was found near a dhaba on the Varanasi-Ghazipur main road on Monday. After she was relocated, Sonam was first sent to Sadar Hospital for initial treatment and then transferred to Sakhi One stop centre, stated ADG Law and Order, Uttar Pradesh, Amitabh Yash.  Reportedly, Sonam had called her brother and informed about her well-being. Madhya Pradesh police were alerted following the development and they have departed to take her into custody.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma confirmed the breakthrough in Raja Raghuvanshi murder case and lauded the efforts of the state police. He stated that three assailants have been arrested and operations are still ongoing to apprehend one remaining assailant. Meghalaya DGP Idashisha Nongrang stated that Sonam was allegedly involved in her husband Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder during honeymoon and had hired killers.

According to Raja’s brother, Vipul Raghuvanshi, he was informed about Sonam’s location around 2 am by her brother, Govind. Following, this they informed Uttar Pradesh police, who took her into custody.

Vipul told ANI, “I spoke to Govind around 2 AM. He informed me that Sonam was found in Uttar Pradesh. After we contacted UP Police, Sonam was taken by the police. She did not surrender. We will not agree that Sonam is the accused until and unless she confesses to this.”

Raja Raghuvanshi’s brother, Vipul Raghuvanshi, made a significant revelation about Raj Kushwaha, suggesting Sonam’s involvement in the murder. Vipul stated that he was initially unaware of the names of those who were arrested, but once Raj’s name surfaced, he identified him. Notably, reports suggest that Sonam and Raj Kushwaha were in a romantic relationship, and she allegedly conspired to murder Raja due to the affair.

We are in the process of bringing her to Shillong for further investigation... All these days they have blamed the people and government of Meghalaya. Since we have already arrested the accused, everything will become clearer to them and one day they will have to withdraw their statements against Meghalaya... Meghalaya is safe, and they need to learn not to jump to conclusions without getting all the facts and details. It creates confusion... East Khasi Hills SP Details Arrests In Raja Raghuvanshi Case, Sonam To Be Apprehended Soon

Vivek Syiem, Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, said "The first person arrested is 19 a 19-year-old Akash Rajput, from Lalitpur. The second accused is Vishal Singh Chauhan, age 22 years, from Indore, the third is Raj Singh Kushwaha, age 21 years, from Indore. Yesterday, Sonam Raghuvanshi is in Ghazipur. This afternoon, we arrested another accused from the Sagar District. One person has been detained in the Nandgarh police station... The third team is on its way to arrest Sonam Raghuvanshi... These people committed the crime on 23rd May and left soon after. At that time, we didn't know it was a murder; we were looking for them. We looked for missing reports, and nobody was found. The body was found only on 2 June, after which SIT was formed and the investigation started... Within these 7 days, the SIT has accumulated substantial evidence and gone down there and has zeroed down on the culprits... If we connect the dots, preliminary investigation will reveal how this whole motive and crime was carried out. It was actually Raj Kushwaha with Sonam. When they come here, we will finally be able to confirm... All these days, Sonam and others were underground, and yesterday, when our operation started, suddenly she surfaced..."

Meghalaya Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong said, "Meghalaya Police is pleased to announce a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the recent case of the disappearance of a honeymooning couple from Indore who went missing in the East Khasi district in May. Involving sustained efforts and multi-state coordination, four people have been apprehended in connection with this case- 2 from Indore, and 1 from Latifpur, UP... In a further development, Sonam Raghuwanshi has voluntarily surrendered in Ghazipur, UP, and is in the safe custody of UP Police. Necessary legal protocols are being followed for her transit and formal statement. Round-the-clock efforts have been made by the Meghalaya Police SIT, supported by SDRF, NDRF, local intelligence units, and law enforcement agencies across states... Despite geographical and logistical challenges and repeated public and media scrutiny, our teams remained steadfast in our commitment to upholding the rule of law."

Fourth Accused Anand Arrested From Bina In Madhya Pradesh

Nitish Patel, SDOP of Bina, Madhya Pradesh, told News 24 that the fourth accused, Anand, has been taken into custody from Basari village near Bina. Anand’s ancestral village is in Mirzapur, but he was currently residing in Indore. After fleeing, he was hiding at his uncle’s house in Basari village. The police are currently interrogating him. DGP Meghalaya Issues Press Release On Sonam Raghuvanshi & Other Developments

Meghalaya Police is pleased to announce a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the recent case involving the disappearance of a honeymooning couple from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, who went missing in the East Khasi Hills district in May 2025.

Following sustained investigative efforts and multi-state coordination, three individuals have been apprehended in connection with this case two from Indore Madhya Pradesh) and one from Lalitpur (Uttar Pradesh). These arrests mark a decisive development in unravelling the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Shri Raja Raghuvanshi and the subsequent disappearance of his wife, Smt. Sonam Raghuvanshi.

In a further development, Smt. Sonam Raghuvanshi has voluntarily surrendered at the Nandganj Police Station in Ghazipur district, Uttar Pradesh, and is currently in the safe custody of the Uttar Pradesh Police. Necessary legal protocols are being followed for her transit and formal statement.

This outcome is the result of round-the-clock efforts by the Meghalaya Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT). supported by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local intelligence units, and law enforcement agencies across multiple states. Despite geographical and logistical challenges, and sustained public and media scrutiny, our teams remained steadfast in their commitment to upholding the rule of law.

We take this moment to reaffirm that the Meghalaya Police is committed to delivering justice with integrity, professionalism, and perseverance. Three Suspects – Raj Kushwaha, Vishal Chauhan And Akash Rajput Arrested

Addl. DCP (Crime) Rajesh Dandotiya told ANI, "On 11th May, Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam Raghuvanshi got married, and on 20th May, they went on a vacation. They reached Shillong via Guwahati. After reaching Shillong, they were constantly in contact with their family. On 23rd May, the couple had their last conversation with their family. After this, the family contacted Indore Police, which was in touch with the SP East Saura district and the couple's relatives. On 2nd June, Raja Raghuwanshi's body was recovered and identified. After the recovery of the body, a case of murder was registered. In this case, DGP Madhya Pradesh was in touch with DGP Meghalaya. As the search operation intensified, we got information from the Shillong Police that Sonam Raghuvanshi had been recovered in Ghazipur. Based on technical inputs, three suspects - Raj Kushwaha, Vishal Chauhan and Akash Rajput- were detained from Indore and a nearby area. The Police are questioning them at an undisclosed location. The name of another suspect, Anand, has come to light. Shillong Police is holding an investigation."

Two days ago, News 24 aired CCTV footage showing Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi leaving Shipra Stay on May 23. In the video, Raja is seen riding a blue scooter while Sonam, dressed in a raincoat from a well-known brand, sits behind him. Notably, Sonam was carrying two mobile phones at that time.

However, when Ghazipur police found Sonam near a dhaba, she had no bag or mobile phones with her. According to the dhaba owner, Sonam borrowed his phone to contact her family members.

This discrepancy in Sonam’s belongings has raised questions about what happened between May 23 and the time she was found near Ghazipur.

'UP Police Hasn't Interrogated Sonam': ADG Law And Order Amitabh Yash

Uttar Pradesh Additional Director General (ADG) of Law and Order, Amitabh Yash on Monday said that the state police hasn't interrogated Sonam Raghuvanshi as this matter pertains to Meghalaya Police.

"Sonam Raghuvanshi called her family members at around 3 am and informed them that she was present at the Kashi Dhaba on Varanasi-Ghazipur main road. Sonam's family members gave this information to the Indore Police, following which they contacted Uttar Pradesh Police. Acting on this, Ghazipur Police took her to the hospital and then to the One Stop Centre in Ghazipur. Meghalaya Police was present in Indore to investigate this case. Sonam Raghuvanshi will be handed over to Meghalaya Police as soon as they reach Ghazipur. UP Police has not interrogated Sonam Raghuvanshi," the ADG law and order told ANI.
