Man Posing as Army Officer Rapes Himachal Woman in Chandigarh; FIR Lodged

A senior police officer said the victim met the suspect, Sumit Badla, on Instagram. The two started conversation on the social networking website and decided to meet in Chandigarh.

The Himachal Pradesh Police registered an FIR against a man for allegedly raping a woman on the pretext of marriage. The man posed himself as an army officer to the victim. The incident took place in Chandigarh in December 2024.

The Himachal Pradesh police have forwarded the FIR to the Chandigarh police to probe the matter.  The FIR was registered in Kangra district. The victim said that the accused had posed himself as a captain rank officer with the Indian Army. 

A senior police officer said the victim met the suspect, Sumit Badla, on Instagram. The two started conversation on the social networking website and decided to meet in Chandigarh.

A source said the victim met the suspect at Sector 8, and he took her to a hotel where he allegedly raped her. She was ready to marry him as he promised the same but he retracted and threatened to kill her. 

The victim has submitted a photograph to the Himachal police, which the state police have forwarded to Chandigarh police for further probe. The victim said that they met in Jalandhar once.
