The film trade is very angry with producer Sajid Nadiadwala. The advance booking for Housefull 5 A and Housefull 5 B have opened to an underwhelming response, and that is an understatement. Several exhibitors and distributors are wondering aloud as to the thought process behind the decision to release two different endings for the film.
Says an irate cinema manager from a multiplex in Patna, “Sir, log confused hain. This A and B version of the same film has never happened before. Instead of choosing one of the two versions, patrons are just staying away. The advance booking on Monday is far beyond expectation. People had not liked the trailer of the film either. So I don’t know if the two versions of the climax has added to the audiences’ coldness.”
Trade guru Taran Adarsh seems to feel the idea of two ending may just work. “Releasing two climaxes for a comedy with a suspense angle is truly a novel experiment — to my knowledge, it’s a first of its kind. Ultimately, it all boils down to content. If the audience connects with the film and its climax, there’s a strong chance they’ll be curious to revisit it and experience the alternate ending as well. Housefull is already a hugely successful franchise, and this innovative twist only adds to its appeal.”
Adds producer and trade analyst Girish Johar, “It’s a brilliant idea, the comedy thriller HF5 is making the right noises. It’s one of the most successful franchise and this is very unique and novel idea. It’s got everyone talking and if the film does well, films fans like me will definitely want to watch BOTH the versions. Will eventually add more to the boxoffice kitty. Kudos to team HF5 and producer Sajid Nadiadwala for this.”
