In the wake of the ghastly terror attack on Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, Bollywood has decided to shelve its typical promotional and celebratory proceedings. As a single show of condolences and sympathy towards the martyrs and their families, various film-related events have been called off all over the industry. These range from the deferment of teaser and trailer releases, movie promotions, and even a prominent upcoming award function.
A ripple effect has been experienced across the entertainment industry, with numerous brands and celebrities avoiding holding planned launches and events. This mass decision is a sign of mourning and respect.
Madhavan Echoes Industry Sentiment
Actor R Madhavan took to his Instagram and shared a post condemning the brutal attack and wrote, “Horrified, Dismayed, Aghast, Deep shock and sadness Heartbreaking #Pahalgamattack. Anger, Wrath, Revenge and retribution, Payback!! Decimate, Annihilate, Set an example, Coward Perpetuators.”
Beyond this R Madhavan also re shared a post on his Instagram story which was originally uploaded by a Mumbai-based photographer. The post highlighted how Bollywood, like other sectors, was standing in solidarity during this moment of grief. The post read, “In light of the current situation, movie teasers, trailers, and launch events have been cancelled. Additionally, a major award ceremony has been cancelled, along with several brand launches. Like all other industries, our film industry also shares in the sorrow, grief, and solidarity during this difficult time.” Madhavan added a folded hands emoji as a subtle but powerful gesture of support.
