New Online Application Portal

In order to ease registration/application, UPSC has introduced a new online application portal.

This year, candidates were first required to register on the OTR platform (available at Commission’s website). However, the OTR profile is a one-time registration profile (can create an OTR profile at any time of the year).

Candidates that have previously signed up on the OTR platform could go on and complete the online application form for the examination directly.

Negative Marking

There is negative marking for wrong answer on the Objective Type Question Papers:

One-third (0.33) of the marks allocated to the question for each wrong answer

No negative marking for questions unattempted

Stages Of Selection In CSE

Civil Services Examination is conducted in two successive stages-chiefly:

Preliminary Examination (Objective Type) – This is for shortlisting candidates for the Main Examination
Main Examination (Written and Interview/Personality Test) – This is for final selection for various services and posts

Structure Of The Prelims Examination

The Prelims Examination is made up of two objective-type papers (i.e. multiple-choice questions) for a total of 400 marks.

This stage is only a screening test. Only those candidates who clear the Prelims are eligible to take the Mains examination.

Qualifying Standards

The Commission gives the qualifying marks for the Mains Examination and an examination of the following:

• The minimum qualifying mark of 33 % in the General Studies Paper II (CSAT).
• The overall qualifying marks in the General Studies Paper I as determined by the Commission.

The UPSC CSE Prelims 2025 was held on May 25 in two shifts. General Studies Papers I and II (CSAT) were conducted on this date. Both General Studies Papers assess candidate aptitude and general awareness. The question papers are now available for download on the official website.
