In a shocking incident, a jobseeker was cheated by an autorickshaw driver in Mumbai. A 26-year-old man from Punjab was cheated out of Rs 90,000 by an autorickshaw driver during a brief ride from Bandra to Andheri. The man had recently come to the city seeking a job. The incident took place around 5 am on April 10, when he hired the autorickshaw for the journey.
Not having his glasses on made it hard for him to see clearly. Faithful in the driver’s care, he gave over his phone and asked him to pay with the digital app. The victim was asked for Rs 1,500 by the driver, but the man later swindled him by siphoning Rs 90,000 to a fake account, as per media reports.
When stopped by police, the driver claimed mistakenly that the digital meter read a higher fare. After sensing the problem, the jobseeker visited the Andheri Police Station and made a formal complaint. The police arrested Ramesh Yadav, a 32-year-old autorickshaw driver, without delay.
A review of the facts showed that someone tampered with the fare meter, so it was clear that something suspicious had happened. According to information found, a case of cheating was reported against Yadav, and officials are checking further to find out if he defrauded other passengers in the same way.
