8-Year-Old Boy Killed As House Collapses In Delhi’s Nangloi

An eight-year-old boy named Vansh tragically died and a man named Sabir sustained minor injuries after a portion of a house collapsed in the Nangloi area of West Delhi on Monday morning.

A house collapse in Nangloi, Delhi, early Monday resulted in an eight-year-old boy’s death and a man injured. Officials reported that the boy, Vansh, was critically injured, and he was taken to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, where the doctor declared him dead. They said Sabir, 45, sustained minor injuries, and was treated with first aid on site.

The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) said they received a call for help at 7.12 am, and sent four fire tenders to the site. Fire brigade personnel said that by 9.50 am, the balcony of the first floor and the roof of the ground floor of the building collapsed, trapping two people under the debris. The cause of the building failure is under investigation, fire brigade officials reported.

This is the most recent incident of building collapse in Delhi this year. On June 4, a two-storey commercial building undergoing rehabilitation in Rohini’s D-12 Market collapsed causing at least one injury. On May 17, three people were killed during a wall collapse at an under-construction basement site, after heavy rainfall, at Arakashan Road at Paharganj.

On April 19, a four-storey residential building collapsed in Mustafabad in Northeast Delhi, killing 11 people (eight from one family). At the time of the Mustafabad building collapse, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) stated that the building was around 20 years old and was an illegal construction. Delhi Police stated that some shops were being constructed on the ground floor and that the work taking place at that time had likely weakened the structure.

Following the Mustafabad building collapse, the MCD started an inspection throughout Delhi of dangerous buildings; however, analysts found in late May that the MCD had only inspected 37 per cent of what they targeted for inspection.
