The effects of this proactive measure are nothing short of remarkable. As per the data released by the Chief Minister, in just eight months of operation, the SSF has made a substantial impact, leading to a dramatic 45.55% decrease in fatalities on highways. It’s a testament to the effectiveness of the force’s vigilant operations.

This force, operational since January 2024, has proven to be a lifeline for thousands. From February to October 2023, the grim specter of road accidents claimed the lives of 1686 individuals. However, in the same period the following year, this figure had dropped significantly to 918, showcasing the SSF’s life-saving capabilities.

A New Dawn – Formation Of The SSF

Conceived in January 2024 under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s vision, the SSF stands as a pioneering step by Punjab, making it the first state to create such a specialized force. It’s an initiative that has earned widespread accolades and serving as a model for other states aiming to diminish road-related fatalities.

The presence of SSF on Punjab’s highways is set to grow steadily. Currently equipped with a fleet of over 100 vehicles, SSF personnel are strategically stationed every 30 kilometers. Their primary task is to expedite aid for accident victims, ensuring they receive medical attention within 15 minutes of an incident, thus significantly improving survival rates.
